Arny, To be honest mate i really hate ATI, they stutter like mad and performance aint much better compare to my 285's TRI SLI. Lucky for me i still have my 3 Nvidia cards and i might even slap them back in. GTX480 is definitely the best GPU out atm. Nvidia pwns all with multi GPU setups as well.
Subject: Re: 3D MARK SCORES Mon Apr 26, 2010 9:12 am
Yer i mite wait and see what Nvidia have up the sleaves. We could see a GTX485 soon. I just read a test between tri 480's, tri 5870's and crossfire 5970's and the tri 5870 smashed them. It's all bullshit any way cause even my tri 280's can run any game at 60+ fps on max settings. I just like to have some new toys to play with lol.

haha yea i hear ya. The 5870's are a lot better compare to the 5970's. Im thinking of getting 4 5870's in and see how they run. They will definitely be the 5870 2GB versions though.

Vantage Run with Tri sli 480 and i7980x. Fuck me check out the wattage draw on these suckers!

Yea its insane man, 100 watts more per GTX480 over the 5870. this i tested with wattage meter. I have ordered today 4X Asus Matrix 5870's 2GB along with Asus Rampage 3. Just have to wait for i7 970 to arrive.
These should give a lot better performance over the 5970's.

I know the 480 is the good card for performance, however I think the card just produces too much heat in comparison with the ati cards. Actually just too much heat in general. Ati used to be shockers for heat production, now the tables have turned.
In fact, I would be suprised if you could run tri sli 480's without water cooling over an extended period of time.
I just dont know where nvidia is going to go with this card?? I mean, as far as power and heat goes, I am pretty sure a dual GPU card with this design is out of the question.

Good performance, too many downsides and costs to much in Aus. Just not worth it unfortunately.

Ok, so i decided to go buy 3 GTX480 and not the 5870 matrix cards.
And i must say i made the right choice,
If you are looking at running a system with more than 1 GPU then i would recommend Nvidia SLI. ATI i had issues with stutter or known as Microstutter which really sux when you are trying to rape your enemy lol. SLI just runs silky smooth and the minimum fps is a lot better.
Here is a run i did today with just 2 GTX480's overclocked a tad. Cpu at 4.5Ghz

I lost it when my SSD failed.
I am going to plan a night to do a 4.6GHZ run with all 3 cards in. but tbh that score is insane for just 2 cards. im impressed
2 GTX 480's are capable of around 40k gpu score but becuase there are certain scenes in vantage that are heavy on the cpu the score is reduced by a fair bit.

Yea, first have to get a i7 980x before i get waterblocks. The cards actually run cooler than my 285's so overheating is not an issue. But for overclocking i will need water to hit 1ghz on the GPU's

Subject: Re: 3D MARK SCORES Thu May 27, 2010 2:50 am
Ok joker remember when i said be prepared to be schooled, k well here we go, water blocks still only cool a GPU-CPU down to room temperature, the same as air but is not as efficient as water unlees you turn your fan speed up to max, and then a wind chill factor comes into play, that is why the GTX 480 has a 1.8 A fan not sayting that it works that great coz those cards get way to hot for my liking, and it will also heat up other components of you computer ie CPU meaning that you might have to lower your CPU Ghz to keep your GFX cards cool unless you have GFX and CPU cooling on separate loops.

Hmm this is one of the main reasons i was holding off the 480's but it would seam most of the reports about heat from these cards is hype. Did you end up getting the rampage lll extreme m8, these boards are the shit for OCing. my RllE is so easy to work with and i will def be getting another one when the time comes to up grade, i just can't justify spending that much coin again lol.

Arny, Yea heat is wat does put a lot of people off, what happens with these cards is the bios fan profile aims to keep the card at highest of 90c any more and the fan will increase to bring it back to 90c.
You can obviously adjust the fan through OC tools which will bring the temps down. As for loudness the 5870 is fair bit noisier compare to 480.
And for motherboard i got EVGA X58 4-Way because R3E doesnt do 16x PCI-E for 3 or more cards where the EVGA does 4 slots at 16x.

Btw guys a great program to adjust your GPU fan is evga precision, its easy to use and its able to OC your GPU. on 100% my GPU stays at about 38 degrees as opposed to 45 degrees @ 40% default.
Subject: Re: 3D MARK SCORES Thu May 27, 2010 6:56 am
Oh thats a shame they only went with 3/x16pcie slots insted of 4. i have not looked to close at the spec's yet, my bad. Is the evga board the twin cpu one?

also called W555 by evga will support 2x CPU its amazing, monstorous and fucking wow! but there is a drawback. they only support Nehalem Xeon's, which are in the thousands. =(

and i agree with nappy, overkill is such a shit word, people where saying having 2 gtx295 and dedi physics was overkill, but its still struggled on full aa and max res on 1920. will be good to see how it goes in game
get the screeny going and post it up
cheers boots
