Ok im after a media player, to plug into the TV and play all my 'backup' movies from off the pc.

Dont know much about them, was looking at a WD from Harvey Norman for $180, full HD.



Any ideas/good products?
Can you get them with a built in hard drive?

plug your comp straight into your tv and use XBMC

Logistics are a problem there trae, pc is no where near it and i dont want cables every where.
Dont know what XBMC is, ill google it later.
And dont want a PS3.

XBMC is worth getting cables everywhere, its so fuckin nice man =) hook up a universal remote to control your system and you're set.

If you have a old xbox around it be worth it to modded and then put XMC on it, i use to do it went i had a xbox as a media center, i can stream movies and music though my network to it. I even can control it with my lappy though a web-browser.

Well now you mention it bucket, I do have a x-box (1) under the TV. It doesnt have a hard drive or chip though.

And you couldnt play HD on it though? (No hdmi)

My M8 has one to play all his vids in Xvid or (divx) format. Just connect it up to ya tv n plug in ya USB or SD or SATA or whateva n away ya go. Plays all formats, all the movies i get off torrent are in Xvid and i put them on a USB thumbdrive n plug it straight into my DVD player, most of em support Xvid/wmv/avi etc now days. From the time i find a movie on revtt to the time im watchn it is 10 mins now. Fuck encoding to DVD rofl.

yea i agree with wounded, i have a PS3 only for media, its great for that shit, in fact its named for it media capabilities for fraction f the price, you can do all things including blueray i would suggest that, WD are lets say black and gold of hard drives ive had 2 and they were like dog shit to me, and customer service (ei to get replaced) were terrible, i would get someting else.

i would REALLY REALLY suggest getting a codec media player/media gate, i have one.... i cant find any on sale for you but this is details off my own knowledge.

ok, it has plugs in the back for av, hdmi, optic, usb, its a multi codec player so you will have no problems with capability problems, and you can insert any size hard drive, in other words insert your own HD so you have to buy the 2 but is farking worth it,

Yeah i would get me a ps3 but is too expensive so fuck that, as for the xbox you can get a cheap modchip for $20 ( if you cant do the installation im sure there some places in aus that will charge you extra $20-$30 to install it).
You can also insall a bigger hard-drive but if you going to stream stuff from you network then you should have a prob.

In my own opinion is a pretty cheap way to get a media center if you allready have a old xbox and is just gathering dust.
Went i use to have my xbox with a X3 modchip (best chip in my opinion) with a 120GB HDD and a wireless bridge( So no network wire needed) in my old flat, one of me flatmates love it so much that he beg me to sell it to him haha.
*** After much digging around apparently you can get HD quality from a normal xbox (By getting the right cable gives you Xbox advance AV and Dolby Digital for audio.
And i know for a fact the XMC (xbox media center) has a option to run up to 1080i). But for this you definely need a modchip.
I would do everything for ya mate but i live in NZ, but i might do it myself since i have a xbox motherboard somewhere with its HDD but i need to build me a case

Yeah they look awesome and i would get me one of does if it wasnt for the price tag, fuck that. For less that $40 i can do the same with the xbox.

If anyones is looking for a media player, check this one out. Only problem is I dont think it has a onboard HD, however has SATA for external.
