I been waiting for crytek to implement it but doesn't look like they are going to so i have some spare time and i like coding so i might implement a CTF GameMode for crysis.
I just want to have some opinions on the game mode itself such as:
  • Starting Weapons Loadout

  • If there should be some type of shop or weapons should be pickup

  • Points Rank or Skills Rank

  • Vehicles Allowed or Not (Vtols are out of question, i dont like them)


Feel free to contribute with ideas because it makes it much easier for me to write them up instead of me thinking of them lol.

Vtols should be restricted to the spawn VTOL, its ok to have those flying around because not many people can aim its piddly MG very well, and an attentive team should be able to shoot it out of the sky easily.

Starting weapons loadout = nah, just make veryone spawn with loads of PP so they can purchase what ever kit they wished. On smaller maps change that to pick up because everyone would whore explosives i nthat situation.

Rank should be skill, no good if some dude can be a quick runner and capper.

Heavier vehs such as tanks should be restricted to one or two only

the things i dont like about IA is that you get no reward for playing well. if you kill heaps then get killed, you gotta find your weapons again leaving you vulnerable.

there should be ranks with points allowing you to buy weapons similar to counter strike. use the PS ranking system and PP should be given for kills, but half the rate of PS. alot of points and maybe an instant rank up for any successful capture of the flag
of course, lose points for tks etc but change the amount you lose to fit with how much people gain (ie 100 instead of the usual 200)

also make people start with maybe.. 200 points? so they can buy some ok weapons to start off.

this way, while killing people helps and gives you better guns, youre much more inclined to try and get the flag.

maybe make the flag area a big square in the base (like 2m, obvious square) and any teammate who is in the square at the same time as capture gets points? like half the points of the capture for assisting. and this can help rank up to buy guns n shit
ie; a flag capture awards 500pp, anyone who 'assists' gets like 100pp and goes towards raising their rank (so they start with more points if rank up)
this is sposed to encourage people to run BACK with the flag carrier to help protect them and get points too. though i realise some people may camp at the base to get points and never leave, so make it punishable if people dont leave the base to help or something


vehicles, i think light vehicles and maybe light tanks should be allowed, nothing heavy or flying. some levels also no vehicles at all. i guess we gotta try not to make it another Halo rip or something though so how the levels are made should reflect the full range of suit usability and variety of vehicles too. maybe one big level where you gotta capture the flag with flying vehicles to help would be cool.

interacting with the flag
and type of CTF mode


first of, how should people interact with the flag? should it just appear on their back and they can use weapons as normal, or they can only carry the flag n do nothing?
in my opinion itd be better if they cant use normal weapons so the teammates are more inclined to protect them, encourages teamwork. maybe they can use melee still. i think theres a golf club with an animation you can use for holding a flag for user UI, just use the flags used on bunkers n stuff.


with the type of CTF mode, should there be one flag you compete to get, and once it is 'captured' returns to the middle of the field, or should each team have a flag, the other team can capture and if your teams flag is taken you gotta get it back.
and if in this case, should you only be able to capture the enemy flag if you have your own flag?
how should the flag be returned, by someone bringing it back, or as soon as a teammate touches it.

in my opinion, one flag would be interesting but then can turn it into a simple 'camp where the flag respawns' type of gameplay, itd be better to have two team flags, and you can only capture the enemy flag if you have your own flag at your base. also, someone should have to bring the flag back manually, not just make it magically appear back at base


also think about flag dropping physics, probably work just like a gun except it should always land upright if thats possible so people can find it, or appear on the map or something.

No offence intended at all, but are you aware of the size this project would be? CTF is something that has been requested since 2007 when Crysis first came out. Crymod/MyCrysis/InCrysis are modding communities of epic size and no one there has yet released a CTF mod and i can only assume that's because it's far too big a project?

If you can do it, you would be praised higher than allah!

I tried a while ago to make it using flowgraphs.

My idea was that the flag was a tac and that you got x number of points for taking the weapon into the enemies base, but you then also had the option of using the tac and you would get a lot less points for choosing that option. So it was a matter when playing of deviding how many kills you could get with 1 shot compared to the number of points for getting the tac inside the enemy base.

The tricky thing is getting the syncing of the 'flag' between the computers.

What about lighting up the flag carrier like when someone spawns a TAC, that way again encouraging teamwork to:
1) Take down the enemy flag carrier
2) work together to protect the flag carrier
and so you know who has it and where.

If vehicles are allowed what happens if the flag carrier gets into a VTOL or TANK ?
Or is the enemy flag carrier LOCKED out of enemy vehicles in the enemy base ?
What happens if they arrive in their own vehicles or land their VTOL into the enemy base ?

Still, it does sound like an awesome idea !

its possible to make diff things light up like when someone has a nuke, i think quacks did it before with other tanks in previous SSM.


yeah the vehicle stuff makes it exciting, at the same time i have many funny memories of playing halo, getting the flag and hopping intoa banshee and if the person gets taken out watching the flag literally bounce across the fuckin level.

I'd just like to point out that vtols should probably be removed Razz, if someone gets into a vtol theres no way the enemy team is going to stop em escaping with the flag lol.

Try do it like call of duty. You have a home base that you need to get the flag too, then you have multiple bunkers around to spawn in. Then u can have vehicle factories at the home base so you can get tanks etc.

LOL carts i'm not drunk went i wrote that, well i will hold on to the ctf mode for the moment since i already started writing code for a different game mode, this one involves two teams: Team 1 has to infiltrate a facility to steal a object (tac laucher) and then retrieve it to a extraction point. Team 2 is defending the facility and if the tac laucher is capture they will have to stop team 1 from moving the tac laucher to the extraction point.
This will be round base so if a team member gets kill it wont get re-spawn until either the objective is accomplish or a whole team is kill.
Only things i need to think and i might need some help from the community if weapons should be preset or should it be a buy-menu option like power struggle, If weapons should be restricted to teams (like claymore can be only brought by team 2).
Went i have most of the code done i might need someone to do a map since this game mode has its own entities (extraction point entity, spawn, ect).
Anyone who wants to help with coding or ideas are very welcome Smile

All I can suggest is look at how quake/unreal tournament/call of duty/world of warcraft/any other game with CTF does it then take the good and bad from them and work on it from there.

Maybe it would be possible to put two styles of CTF mode in:
Vehicles and Non Vehicles (Just pick maps that allow vehicles or get someone to mod some maps for you)

Does the flag carrier gain more armour and less speed when carrying?
Does the flag carrier gain more speed and less health when carrying?
With the TAC cannon you will automatically get a nuke sign above your head wont you?
The choices of weapons on the map (Is it a large map/small map) what weapons will be effective or OP on the maps?
Will the weapons be a respawn idea or will they be a bought item (I'd prefer respawn as it'll keep gameplay faster)

Really need to sit down and nut lots of crap out lol

PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there is already a CTF ssm server up...it has a few bugs....but i think we can sort them out.....BUT THE OTHER THING IS.....
i think it would be best if we recreate the maps that ctf would be played on in order to make it feel like ctf and then we can create speaial enities thatmay not be the tacgun....but still get that symbol above ur head (if u want to know how that is done we can discuss that in the members only section:D)
