| Ok im having some troubles overclocking my cpu. My system specs are as follows: CPU: Q6600 RAM: 4GB DDR2 800MHZ GPU: 9600GT (IRRELEVANT) MOBO: GA-P35-DS3L When i go into my bios, i get to the setting where it asks me whether i want to enable or disable my ability to manually change some clock settings. I have my multiplier set to 9 as default, and my FSB i think is just standard, and gives me the standard 2.4GHZ... I try to put my FSB to 333 so that i can get 3.0GHZ (heat i dont think is an issue for me, my cpu temps are all around 30 degrees to 42 degrees on idle, and dont ever go much higher even under load...) So back to my problem. I change the setting to enable and put up my fsb to 333, i save everything properly by pressing F10... then what happens is that my computer shuts down once i save it, which i guess is normal, however, it tries to boot up again and restarts two times before it actually starts booting properly... when it does start booting properly, my manual tweaking or whatever it is called, is set to disable, which leaves my cpu back to a stock 2.4GHZ So now i need some help, because i do want to OC my cpu, so has anyone had the same or similar problems and has come up with solutions... or does anyone know any solutions? This is how i want mine looking, but my cpu host clock control keeps getting disabled by itself.. Ok so what happens to me is that i would oc it to 2.7ghz, which are the only settings my bios has liked so far... and i get a blue screen when i boot up windows. My Vcore thingo i think is 1.25 or something like that. So i have no idea what the problem is but help is greatly appreciated. |

| Gday Serbz. Perhaps if I help you you will turn your lag haxx off so I can shoot you dead next time without you jumping/teleporting all over the friggin place . Hey, you may be having the problem because with overclocking you need to feed your CPU more volts. Simply taking the multiplier UP will make your PC unstable as it won't have enough power, hence the boot downs (not sure if that is a techincal word but it sounds good anywho). The other factor that may be causing it to boot down (yeah!) is that your motherboard settings may be holding your back. There is a bunch of settings that "monitor" and adjust your settings for stability that just interfer with a basic overclock. If you want a good basic guide on how to overclock the Q6600, I can send you the guides I used. Then I can tell you what my e6600 is overclocked too. I got mine to 3.2GHZ no sweat, and I'm only a google overclocker. I was satisfied with 3.2ghz for sure. |

| u dont need more voltage dude... its the mobo pretty sure... ok bring up the bios.. the go to i think its advanced bios features its like the second one down... there might be somfin called EPU i think disable that(if its there) disable EIST casue tahts ... put TM2 to enable... C1E is the energy saver disable that too... change host frequencys so it adds up to like 2.6 then try 2.8 so on so forth to see how far u get... get a program called everest 4.5.. i got a keygen for it thanks to sgt ... it will tell u everything bout ur comp u want to no... like temps of cpu etc etc... pretty sure changing these settings will leave ur multiplier alone too so its always at the desired Ghz... ummm yeah bob has the same mobo as u though and im guessing he'll put a post up too |

| Try this one for some Gigabyte DS3 settings (i got a DS3). THe bios setting changes are in there. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/239125-29-overclocking-gigabyteBecause we got the same sort of CPU just you got more cores, I used the guide but went for: MHZ 400 (I also got 800MHZ RAM as you do which means they are now running on its reommended speed becaus memory is x2, ie 400mhz x 2 = 800mhz.) MULTIPLIER 8Thus 400x8=3.2GHZ RAM Timings (5,5,5,15) DDR2 +1 FSB +1 MCH +1 CPU VOLT 1.3625Make sure you got core temp to test temperatures, and run Prime95 for some tests. Check the guide for more details. Your CPU may be better or worse. Its a matter or starting with higher volts, then working your way down until the lesser volts still means your CPU is stable. I am no expert, but it worked for me and has been for months just using various guides and playing with the settings. Write down each setting change until you find the optimal one. |

| Hey mate, try a smaller jump first, like an FSB of 300. So times your mulitiplier = 2.7Ghz
But yeah i think its probably your Vcore. Put it up by 0.05V and see how you go.
Make sure your memory mulitiplier, keeps your memory speed around stock.
The other settings gazz was talking about are speedstep and other functions which are ment to save power by keeping your cpu underclocked when its not under load. And one underclocks when your Cpu goes over a certain temp. I turned all mine off. EIST, C1E, TM2. |

| hey thanks bob, ok when i oc'd to 2.6ghz with gazz' help.. and then when i tried to put it up to 2.8ghz, the bios shit itself and restarted and now im back to 2.4.. my voltage is on 1.25 atm should i put it up to 1.3? |

| Its your volts for surz Serbz....I run my Q6600 @3.6 with vcore @1.45v Its all trial and error my friend till you hit the sweet spot Go low with speed and high with (volts) then work down till you hit a stable OC.....keep your fsb volts up also. I use a790i and its easy to Oc, my old DS3 was hard to get stable at 3.2. There are plenty of youtube tutorials on q6600 oc's m8! Just watch the temps and do a stability test with Everest. Cos |

| Yeah mate as cosmic said, your pretty safe up to 1.45V. But imho, try not to go above 1.35V - 1.4V, But its better to go slow on these things. The P35 is a good chip to OC on so you should have no trouble there.
So up the voltage by 0.05V, if it boots. Run stress test, if that fails, up Voltage by 0.05. Test again.
What memory multiplier are you using? If your accidentally OC your memory,it could be why its not booting. |

| ok thanks for all the help to everyone.. i have oc'd my cpu to 3.0ghz! wooo! i think i might keep it like that for a while until i get an aftermarket cooler. Would an aftermarket cooler allow me to oc alot more than a stock cooler? |

| Good to hear.
Depends on what aftermarket cooler you get. You should measure you temps with software and see how it goes with stock cooling. Bump it up a little higher and see how hight the temps go.
Mine runs about 60 degress during Crysis with aftermarket cooler on a hot day, bout 55 on a cold day. |

| yeah serbz mate i oc my cpu with my new cooler from 3.0 up to 4.0 now ... runs at 54 degrees celsius max in game!.. running a stress test is going to be using more load than crysis so keep that in mind... i was doin stress testing and was like 63 degrees max... then i played wars and only went 54 max... so pretty much matters wat temp it gets in game... dan oc his q6600 to 3.9 on air cooling too... i was gonna try for 4.2 ghz but dan sed just leave it no more bottlenecks, frames not gonna improve any more... i can run all high settings now avg between 60-70 frames and i oc'd my gpu too... im so happy now ......for a new cooler i really recommend the xigmatek HDT-S1283... http://www.xigmatek.com/product/air-redscorpions1283.php thats wat i just bought today its f'ing ruthless! |

| ROFL buckethead I dont know where you got that information from however if it was true my cpu would be well and truley fucked by now. Ive had 1.6v going into mine with tempatures up to 80deg. |

rofl buckethead hahaaha... dude by the time ur done oc'ing ur oc and shorten the life of it it won't die for years... i got mine oc'd from 3ghz to 4ghz atm im not getting 5 degree increase but temp isnt the only thing rofl... just cause u got a low temp on ur cpu doesnt necessarily mean its getting fucked... dunno where u got ur info but pretttttyyyyyyyyy sure its wrong |

| trust me guys i am a electronic engineer and they bash my head with this info went i was studying this stuff, this counts with all electronic devices by the way. I dont like overcloaking because you add alot of stray capacitance in the transistor inside the cpu and the current goes up, this causes the internal tracks to degrade, and im not bullshitting you guys lol. |

| Everyone knows higher temps = shorter life spans, but the real problem with overclocking is the fact buying something like a Q6600 vs a higher clocked Q6 series Intel CPU is that its default clock is 2.4 per core because its of lower quality than a 2.66 or 2.8 quad.
Yes you want to make your e-peen so much bigger by hitting massive overclocks on your CPU, or you could stop being such a tight arse and save up for a higher end CPU that is designed to do it.
And besides, from some of the system specs i've seen, half of you don't need your 4GHz overclocks on a Quad, its not going to make much difference to games when your GPU is holding you back.
Oh look at me, I can compress a ZIP file faster, whoopdey fucking doo, unless your using software to assign each core to a program, 2 of your cores are typically sitting near idle all the time. |

| tahts y u get a dual core ... ppl get quad core cause automatically they think wow more cores thats gonna make my games faster... but the truth is that u comp doesnt use all 4 cores whilst gaming or on a normal home computer... games will only need 2 cores for like another 1 at least before u need quad core cause simply ur comp doesnt use all the cores like shmoe sed... even warhead... ive seen multiple vids on youtube of ppl testing how much each core is beng used (quad core) and on al of them it should one at about 90% one at 60% and the others at near idle... hence y i got a e8400 oc'ed to 4ghz.... yeah ive passed the bottleneck for gaming but i like it at tis speed as the computer generally works much much faster from 3ghz stock |

| I got a Quad because I used to do alot of photoshop/ dreamweaver work while encoding movies and running multiple apps at once.
Having said that, for some fucked reason playing NFS Pro Street uses about 25-50% of all cores at 1 time. |

| i could have a massive QQ session about my pc and why i can't OC past 2.8, but i know why i cant (shitty $50 gigabyte mobo)
As it is my mobo is already overclocking the FSB and Ram to get the 1333/800 FSB and Ram speeds.
Which gives me a shitty arse 14000 score on 3DMark06 |

| You have similar items with me.
A Q6600 A Gigabyte P35 Mobo.
I have mine overclocked and stable.
FSB should be at 333mhz, PCI Express should be at 100 (So you wont blow your graphics cards) And you voltage should be up at 1.371 V Ram multiplier at 2.40
Thats my settings. |

| its got to do with ur express slot 3 no need to do anythig with that, if ur using a p35 then there r settings that u might need to disable to allow ur clocks settings to work fine otherwise u cant get higher then a certain clock setting, i cant remember what settings they were but do remember that i had to dissable them for it all to work stable |
