Hi All

I currently have a q6600 it was oc'd to 3.33 GHZ until i had an accident with cooling (i tried to run it without a fan and with water all over the mothboard and it sort melted some stuff and i have heaps of rust on my cooler) now it will not go past stock 2.4GHZ.
I have since washed my ati 4870 in the sink with soap and hot water and it works fine!

Anyway i need a new system and can't for the life on me work out weather an I5 is better than an I7 for the price?


I have seen I5 quads at 3.33 and apparently oc to 4GHZ so why would i pay more an I7?
I am fairly stupid so please dont give me any specific data just a simple I5 or I7 will be fine.

wait until the 2011(its not the year but the pin number) i7's sandy bridge cpu's come out later this year, this will push down the prices of the current cpus.

Keep in mind that the newer i5 2500K which runs on the new sandy bridge chipset and is priced at $250~ matches and can even beat the performance of the older chipset i7 cpus which is priced at $1300~

OK Tulz that's to much info for Pauline if budget isn't a problem I'd say i7 I have my i7 overclocked @ 4.2 running 1.25v

true, there is no pint in getting an intel 800 or 900 series i7 when the i5 2500K owns them for less $$$, or if you have the extra cash, the i7 2600K which is a step up from that

imo, grab the i5 2500K for $250

and a p67 mobo

What about ram, i see 1366 is now a bit ordinary and some have 2400 for sale? and will my old HD4870 do for a gpu or should i burn it as a sacrifice to the nvidia gods?

lol Pauliine grab a triple channel kit of G.Skill 3x2GB DDR3 1600 RAM and if your thinking of sacrificing your 4870 to the Nvidia gods i'll take it off your hands before i see that happen lol

ram should be upgraded when you grab this new chipset (mobo) and 2x4gb modules should be sufficient....

they are essentially the same but you can overclock better with the dominator ones thanks to their cooling heatsinks

sorry to do, this but the p67 chipset has only 2,4,8 ram modules slots and only supports dual and quad channel....there would be no benefit of getting triple pack

Hey Pauline i got a I5 2500k with a P8P67 pro asus motherboard, and dual channel 2x4gb gskill 1600ghz ddr3 ram and is running very well, at times my cpu overclocks to 4.1ghz ( auto overclocking went it only needs to) and been very stable, no crashes what so ever.
GTX560 is a good card also, running it on my rig and very happy how is running.

Buckethead - The main question is this.. Can i play supreme commander skirmish mode myself and 7 computer IA with a unit limit of 750 at +10 speed without it slowing down? huh huh huh cat got ya tongue boy.. huh huh

Did you know that when you put a Draw 4 down the other players can challenge you and if its found out that you could have played a normal card of the same colour instead of the draw 4 you have to pick up the 4 cards.. but if they challenge and lose they must pick up 6 cards..

I don't have an iphone, if I did i would play Uno all the time on it.

I like Uno, and Cheat, because I don't know any other card games and they are easy to play as drinking games as well.
