As a result of AMD (formally ATI) releasing there new graphics cards, starting with the 6850 + 6870 which are targeted at the GTX 460 768MB + GTX 460 1024MB respectively, Nvidia are lowering there prices by quite a bit. The 460 1024MB edition will now be priced at $200 USD instead of the $250 of which it was originally priced at because the 6870 is $250 USD and beats it hands down.

Now to create a real rival for the 6870 within a respectable price range, NVIDIA is now going to drop the GTX 470 to $260 USD...but i have to say....this will not work because the 6870 already beat it performance wise and of course price wise.

The New Beasty cards, the 6900 series, are coming out in November for AMD and they promise to challenge NVIDIA's current hold of the fastest single GPU, plus more multi GPU cards are coming with this group also.

Now the scaling of the 6870 in crossfire is quite incredible, it actually beats 5870 crossfire in most circumstances...which it isn't even competing with(it then of course beats the GTX 480). Both cards are limited to only a single crossfire configuration, but it still means that you could get 2x 6870 for the same price of a GTX 480 and win hands down in benchmarking.

yeah i'm still a nvidia man but honestly my GTX 275 is still about the GTX 460 scores and the GTX 470 is shit for value for money, and the GTX 480 has problems....i'm going to hold out for nvidia's next release of cards b4 i think of upgrading...that is unless AMD comes up with something that can make me bat for the other team....so to speak

what problms does the 480 have? my one seems to be smooth sailing ATM.

Consider that these 6850 and 6870 are only their mid range cards. The 6950 and 6970 (replacing the 5850 and 5870) are coming in the next month or two. Then theres antilles the 6990 dual gpu monster.

Nvidia only holds ~10% of the dx11 gpu market so yeah....

Im still happy with the 480's and those 480 sli scores u posted tulzer are very low should be 33000 or so.
I still think Nivida have the edge when it comes to multi card systems, the scaling is always some what poor with the crossfire set up.

The 6*** series so far has better scaling than any nvidia cards. There have been some games bnched with 99.7% scale and one with ~103% scaling (dont ask me how, something to do with drivers). Looking forward to 6950 and 6970 next month they will be VERY interesting.

Not from what i have seen and it's not only the scaling that is generally behind Nvidia cards when used in SLI or crossfire as it were. The ATI cards NEVER run as smooth in a multi setup, and this you can not tell from bench scores, maybe this time they have improved the Crossfire drivers.

Yeah i don't think we will see 1 for 1(100%) scaling for some time yet. But you would have to say it is shit loads better than even 2 yrs ago! Just part of the fun when paying bullshit amounts of money for smaller returns, arrrr gotta love Multi card rigs lol.
Also we need to take any bench scores you see on the net with a grain of salt, I know from some of the testing i have done over the years that results can jump all over the place with just a little change in settings and what have you.

yeah i thnk they do the tests several times to get an average...but meh i know some sites are biased as well ...so the only real way is to go get one for yourself
