I was discussing with BaseJJ about games worth playing if you've never played them, games that have been hugely popular or had a cult following, as Base has only been relatively new to PC gaming so I thought I'd start a thread where we can inform each other of games past that have been awesome to play and may be worth chasing down again.
Total Annihilation:
Command & Conquer:
Command & Conquer Red Alert:
X-COM/X-COM Terror From The Deep:
Diablo Series:
Descent Freespace 2:
Homeworld series:

I'd like to also mention that there are open formats for some of these games, also a tonne of mods and updates so that we can still enjoy these games.

Man I fucking loved Total Annihilation, Core ftw! Diablo 2 consumed a lot of my time, as did Age of Empires 2 Red Alert to a lesser extent
IT SEEMS SOMEONE HAS FORGOTTEN THE MECHWARRIOR SERIES THOUGH
3, Pirates moon, 4 +expan and 5 took a bit of my time.
wait is there even a 5 or am i dreaming? 3 was the best though..

Id prefer to see some actual gameplay footage in here than trailers your dog, trying to show people other games out there worth playing...not cgi. Find some good ingame footage.

lol dessi i posted that before quickly going out so didnt waste time looking for gameplay footage
here's some good footage:
shows mission overview, which i think is well done with good voice acting and pretty detailed. then 'buying' gear which is from a 'mission salvage' which is basically shit you found last mission and the mechs you can deploy that bits boring as he messes around with it for a bit, skip to 3:40 to check out the Mechlab where you customise equipment and weapons on your mechs you see not only can you stick weapons here and there but cooling systems, upgrade frame and armor, etc.
for mechwarrior 3 action watch this video:
these are shit vids there aren't any good videos of mechwarrior 3 gameplay, given that its a game from before the youtube age i don't think its hard to see why.. everyone was playing games rather than watching them but this includes some vehicle combat, mission shit, a few small mechs etc.
there are mission where you fight big mechs and obviously it can get intense but cant find any vids.. whatevers.

awesome yourdog, I remember playing mechwarrior 4 abit, never got the chance with mech 3 though. I was playing the other mech game starseige:
You even got to play as the bad guys and the way the cybrids were shown was cool, they had this way of talking in game that made them come across as evil.

[quote="Basejj"lol both of those vids say "This Video has been removed by the user"[/quote] farrrrrrk they worked before
fuck it, its a fucking good game and if you never played it when you were younger your parents didn't love you. =P
Nice dessi.
i liked a game called Battllezone 2, RTS / FPS that took a lot of my time up
im pretty sure on top of the guy for this vid having a shit and stupidly long intro, he used cheats because his ammo stays max and he has way too few resources to have all the shit he does.. faggots
fucking loved playing as the Scions. awesome voices for their units, and the Arc Cannons were boss
Once again shit fuckin vids but whatevers, was a good game and if they ever released another great game like it id buy it immediately.

Fucking nostalgia, did anyone play Fury3?
When I was really young I mostly played games my dad owned like Fury3, Age of Empires I, Dark Reign I & II, Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 3D, Star Wars: Dark Forces, MechWarrior 2, Abe's Oddysee, Road Rash and Commander Keen (lol).

we are clearly forgetting a few industry changing games:
fuck yes fps multiplayer, 4 friends in the same room shooting each other with tons of guns.. dual wielding, nades, all here. the most common complaint wasn't lag, because that didn't exist, but 'fuckin screen cheater'
if you didn't play this game as a kid, you know nothing about games.
Perfect Dark took what goldeneye gave us and made it ten times better. 4 human players in the same room, + up to 8 computer controlled bots! HOLY SHIT! on some old n64 piece of shit they did all that and today if you want more than 2 player split screen you gotta fork out cash for more consoles and copies of the game. bots don't exist in multiplayer anymore.
you got tons of guns, + a secondary fire mode, and some weapons that were crazy: Laptop Gun - deploy as a sentry gun that raped everyone Farsight - one hit kill sniper rifle that could see through walls and automatically track enemies. all you had to do was pull the trigger Slayer - rocket launcher that you could fly by wire, watching through a camera on the rocket and zoom around the level taking anyone out anywhere RCP180 - used ammo to turn your character invisible! Proximity mines - secondary function made them bounce violently around the map really fast until they found someone, i called it Proximity Pinball and you'd just throw as many as you could to make the game more fun Melee - secondary function was DISARM! steal the cunts gun and use it against them this was also the first game EVER to introduce 'noobtubes'. the Superdragon assault rifle had a secondary function of shooting grenades from an underslung tube. these were rapid fire and fucked people up.
those are just a few
it had 6 multiplayer game modes and you could customise everything from level to music played during the game, weapons and where they spawned, bots, how your character looked, fuckin everything man
