Hey guys I can't play online like before because my laptop was stolen and told the police. and I had just used xp cd to wipe the hard-drive before installing vista.
So I need to know a few things can the person who stole it get into the laptop because I had a bios password? (basically a password is needed once you start the laptop or do anything)
And if the cops find it will they need to go into the laptop and search into it because I just formatted it before returning it?
I need to know because i got music downloaded from p2p and some adobe programs

i don't think the cops would do that.. thatd be kinda weird.. and way out of their job descrip to hunt product keys.. and whether or not the guy can get into it would be determined by his skill level, id doubt he woudl try at all, he'd sell it for anything or just try format it again

well hate to break the news but for 1 u will never find it, pw r easy to get into i know some1 that knew some1 that knew some1 that brought a hot laptop that had a pw at the start of it and guess what they got the pw in an hour. and second of all they will need to confirm that it is really urs so they might ask u for windows product id key and well thats where u will get fucked cos that goes under fraud and theft, plus ur from fucking broadmeadows good luck on finding it rofl um i mean sorry to hear the bad news.

insurance? where did it get stolen from? if it was a house or car its covered.....

it was in my brothers car on the seat in my drive way, but the windows were kinda open and you can easily open the door. But my bro doesn't have the insurance for his car, its not the actual laptop I am worried about, at the moment I am looking for a replacement online.

It's that if they do find it I have installed programs that are downloaded in the wrong way and as I mentioned in my first post I formatted it recently but it was only a quick format.

Won't be much of an issue, cops probably wouldn't do anything. That would breach the privacy act as you did not give them permission to go through it once they retrieve it.

All you gotta do is reset the bios and that will remove a bios password and as for the windows password you simply start in Safe-Mode and remove it under administrator mode. I thought that was basic knowledge. hmm there ya go learn something new everyday.
