How does the 07 compare to the 99 cos.

Bob they are very different.
The 99 as everyone knows was the first "real" 1000cc supersport. It set the standard and paved the way for the 1000cc war between the jap makers.
It was a beast, had a rep for throwing riders cause of its raw power. No electronic aids, carby controlled, and looked so sweet.

The 07 is at the other end of the spectrum, the 6th evolution of the R.
180HP and 175kg dry weight, electronics abound, from electronic variable intakes (when you hit 10,000rpm the thing just grows a second set of balls)...amazing!
Fly-by-wire throttle so it is so precise and responsive.
The chassis is the biggest change though, the deltabox in the 07 is directly derived from the M1 motogp and is so light and strong (in all the right places) The brakes are also a lot better on the 07, 6pot calipers!

On the track the 07 just rides away from the 99 because its basically got all the prototype tech filtered down from the M1....just like all the other 1000cc's now days.

My advice bob, is if you owna bike (any bike) you must do a track day.....its so different to the road, you get to see what the bikes were designed for, they actually dont work on the road as you cant get them to operating peak ie tyre temps etc!
Everyone i have taken to a track day has become hooked..lol...ask Arny...hes a veteran track man!!
The track days are inexpensive and you get to ride at your own pace, diff groups go out according to your experience speed etc.....its all good!

Yeah love to at some stage. Whilst the Z isnt really a track bike, it would be fun as fuck to unleash. I took it up the black spur last week (famous bike road in Vic), and the road is so smooth, so much nicer transitioning between sharp corners with well made pavement.

Mate thats taken at turn two after the kink at the end of the main straight. And nar i lost heeps of confidence, but buy the end of the day i had got going, nock out a couple of mid 1.18's around the gp track. Which is not fast but is not hanging around eather. Yer so i was happy.

Coz you need to get your self some slicks for the track, they'll blow your mind at the level of grip they offer, and wear better than the treads do on the track.

that's good man. I know how easy and tempting it is to tromp it with a S/C haha but with aftermarket chip you de-tune it for day to day driving. Then when you hit the track select the right tune for full power easy. I think you can save 5 tunes.
