his Friday, Electronic Arts will unveil its own take on the popular online PC shopfront Steam, with the launch of a service called Origin.
According to a report on the Wall Street Journal, this service will function much like Steam, as a single store and gaming platform on the PC that will let customers "purchase, download and keep track of" their games.
It's even lifting Steam's social features, and will also feature cross-platform notifications that will "let gamers on a variety of devices broadcast messages to online friends when they defeat online opponents or accomplish other gaming goals."
So I can be eating dinner and an asshole friend message me on my phone saying he scored some mad Dragon Age loot? Wonderful.
A "hypothetical" example of this cross-platform integration would be Battlefield, with EA saying players could rack up experience points on a mobile version of the game that will count towards unlocks on the PC edition.
EA is Launching Its Own Steam CompetitorWith the full reveal not due until tomorrow, expect more details (and a better idea of how it'll all work) then. One thing I can say now is, that name? That's one unfortunate brand revival if ever I've seen one.

Subject: DICE mocking Call of Duty Sun Jun 05, 2011 7:28 am
DICE has confirmed that it's putting the final touches on a playable demo for E3. Conference-goers will be able to play a multiplayer map called "Operation Metro," which appears to offer well-rounded glimpse of Battlefield 3's gameplay. Players will experience both large and small-scale combat along with the ability to disable vehicles, mount weapons and more, according to DICE GM Karl Magnus Troedsson.
Although folks at home won't be able to experience the action firsthand, the developer noted that EA will stream its press conference on Monday. According to GameSpot's countdown page, the keynote seems to start around 12:30PM PDT. You can also expect to see new trailers, screenshots and in-depth press previews next week, so there's plenty to look forward to even if you can't make the trek to Los Angeles.
Additionally, Troedsson announced some features that won't be showcased at E3, including an "extensive co-op campaign" -- a first for the Battlefield franchise. He also took the opportunity to mock Activision's recently announced "Call of Duty Elite" premium subscription service. Apparently, DICE is whipping up a Battlefield 3 "Battlelog" that offers similar social tools, feeds and stats free of charge.
Due in November and developed with the company's new Frostbite 2.0 engine, Battlefield 3 is shaping up to be one of the, if not the biggest PC game of 2011. Based on previous announcements, we know that the title features four classes, more unlockables than Battlefield: Bad Company 2, meaningful character customizations, as well as improved level destruction, character animations and war sounds.

DUST 514 A PS3 exclusive game that is the 'first time PC and consoles will be brought together'. It is essentially an FPS set in the same world and servers as EVE, meaning that while PC players will play their mmo from their ships and stuff, consoles plays can be hired as mercenaries by PC players to take on contracts and do missions for them from the PS3.
In light of this mountain of new information, DUST 514's slogan of "One universe, one war" begins to make a lot of sense. EVE players could be fighting a battle in orbit of a planet for control of an infrastructure hub while ground troops simultaneously fight over the planet below. Losing the battle on either front could have disastrous consequences for players on the other side of the fence.
EVE players winning their battle could deliver aerial support to ground troops in realtime from ships in orbit, and DUST marines with battlefield control could deliver devastating strikes on enemy ships from captured ground batteries -- all at the same time, in one massive universe and one gargantuan war. If that doesn't excite you, check your pulse because you're probably dead.
Cool concept, but who knows how well it will turn out.

Nintendo announced the Wii U at E3. It is a new console, which has the feature of a new controller. From what was shown, the Wii U can use the regular Wiimotes as controllers as well.
its sensible amount of under-the-bonnet grunt (an area in which the underpowered Wii suffered from its inception) gives it much more hardcore appeal than its predecessor.
After the demo was over Nintendo, bless it, treated us to a final element of cloak-and-daggerishness. We were told more facts about Wii U, which had to be read out and transcribed only onto paper.
So here they are: the console itself will run in full HD, via HDMI, but the touchscreen isn't HD. The console has internal Flash memory which can be augmented with "SD Card or USB solutions". It will play optical disks and downloadable content, and will be backwards-compatible with Wii software. And it will launch some time between 1 April and 31 December 2012.
It will be the oddest console ever, and possibly the best, too. Or it may turn out to be a complete cul-de-sac. But one thing is for sure: it won't just be another generic games console.
I should say that details on the console itself were ignored completely apart from showing off the new controller. They barely even looked at the console, just had it present but not noticed in all demonstration videos. Either they are still sorting out details or they just want hype to go around about their new peripheral. Supposed to be more powerful than PS3 or 360 more details later

Halo 4 was announced the other day, and it is confirmed there will be 3 more games bringing the series to have 8 titles under the belt (including ODST and that shitty RTS)
