PostSubject: Help Bucket to pick parts for his soon-to-be PC   Help Bucket to pick parts for his soon-to-be PC EmptyFri Jan 28, 2011 7:45 am

Hey dudes now i think is time for me to get me a new rig and get rid of this laptop.

So far this is what i have, price are in NZD and i am willing to buy online and overseas as long as the prices have a good margin.
Prices are from pricespy.co.nz

  • CPU: Intel I5 2500k = $348.24 NZD

  • Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 = $337.25

  • Ram: Either G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL8 2x4GB = $289.00 or Corsair XMS3 Vengeance DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL8 2x4GB = $289.69

  • Video Card: This one is a tough one, i setting the budget up to $450,no more and this are the ones that turn up:
    Asus Radeon EAH6870 DC/2DI2S/1GD5 1GB = $427.80, EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SC Mini HDMI Dual-DVI 1GB = $444.19

  • PSU: Corsair CMPSU-650HX 650W=$$188.47, Thermaltake Evo Blue 650W=$185.84 or Antec TruePower New Series 650W=$180.16

  • HDD: I want to go for a small 40GB to 60GB SSD HDD and a 1TB HDD so this what come up, SDD HDD: Corsair Force Series F60 60GB = $222.87 and HDD : Seagate SV35.5 ST31000525SV 32MB 1TB = $103.39

  • Case: I had a look at a Coolmaster Storm scout for $200 at the local PC store, i willing to get another one at the same price-range

That all up to $2160nish, my budget is up to $2500 but has to include monitor, keyboard and mouse (going to buy another Logitech MX518)

Any suggestions regards different componets would be good. Cheers guys

small ssd'd arn't very good at all.....basically raid striping speed.....minimum really should be 100GB to see proper performance.... sorry if this is bad for budget EDITED BY TULZ: FAIL

oh and because you live in new zealand.... http://www.staticice.co.nz/

Also for video card...if u extend budjet by just $9 you can get a GIGABYTE GTX 560 (worth it imo)

Don't think so, seeing as the graphics on the 360 is set on medium, and the environment is not as intensive

Hello Bucket et al

Just to sort of get back on topic, I know that Pauline brought a shaw power supply for $32.00 aud.
I think she said it was 850 watts ?
At MSY ?

Now I don't understand anything about power supplies, but pauline has done so many stupid things to her own pc and that thing still hasn't burnt out or blown up yet.
That is probably the most stable thing in her house and that includes her family members !
So why spend so much on yours ?

Maybe put the difference to something else in your pc ?

I brough a XFX 650w modular PSU, that would be fine unless i want to go SLI which i wont at this time, i am spending a bit because is modular, i cant be fucked having so much cables out of it.

I didnt brought a ATI, tulzer found a GTX 560 for extra $9 so i decided to get that instead.

So if wounded donaates the free 650W powersupply, then bucket has $180+ extra to spend on something else ?
What else has wounded horded in his bag of goodies that can be donated ?

And tulzer, you wanna hear something funny ?
When Pauline brought that pc it was from some dodgey shop somewhere and they quoted 450W power supply.
In actual fact the power supply stated 350 w on the case and it in fact did blow up.
So Pauline replaced it with the nifty $32 shaw.
Since then that pc has regretted ever setting foot into her household.
I think it is used now to warm up the snap frozen rats she keeps in her freezer.

So why can't wounded donate some stuff to me? I will tell you why.. he would end up falling in love with me and would have to leave his girl!

Now lets talk about rats shall we... First thing is that they are not rats they are mice. The difference between ratus ratus and Mus musculus is simple but Danielle would only use gerbils so i suppose i won't go on with the story.

I am a herper and a frozen mouse can be bought up to temp on top of the video recorder or computer quite quickly..

Well Karma if they where pure copper they will oxidize hard, so i think they coated them with some other metal or some sort of coating to prevent the oxidizing process, makes sense to me.

i5 2500k is faster than the i7 980x for gaming. Its a new architecture so single threaded performance is up compare to first gen i5 and i7.

1156 is now replaced with 1155
1366 will soon be replaced by 2011

both new sockets will be on Sandybridge architecture.
