There is a reason i have the Alias Cosmic....i enjoy Cosmology, the Universe etc. This puts how small and insignificant we really are on the cosmic scale of things into perspective!
Antares is a Red Super Giant and the 15th brightest star in the sky. It is what our sun will look like in 5 billion years!

That's quite fascinating. We are just another germ in the universe. Perhaps a disease.

Yes Charlie, in fact we are more like a parasite, using up the natural resources of our environment, consuming it for our own gain......sad but true.

the thing that amazes me is the fact our sun will expand to be that large, albeit less dense, and consume pretty well almost everything in the solar system.
By then though we'll be on the run from cylons looking for 'new' earth

yeah i have to agreee, super star destroyers would kick the shit out of any federation starship. if a normal destroyer can issues a delta base zero in an hour a super star destroyer could probably take out a star.
although it would come down to whether ion cannons and lasers could take on phaser beams and photon torpedoes

As far as I'm concerned EVE-O is good for internet spaceships, but I don't play it anymore.
Note: Antares is one big damn star.... or is it? (Relatively speaking)
Edit/PS: What is with some stars being white in those pics?

Spot on about what White Dwarfs are, Virt, but I think the stars appearing white or any colour is just how we percieve them. White Dwarfs aren't hot enough to be very visible, usually quite feint in the sky. Also aren't necessarily white =P

I know this kind of stuff is reposted alot, but I like computer generated videos over infographics sometimes =P
so that makes VY Canis Majoris equal to the mass of one million billion Earths? I can't even imagine how big that really is.

lol Serbz, those are Stars. And we can 'see' them from here, by the radiation they emit. It does make you think though..

Man his mind will be blown when he finds out they make some mirrors and lenses so smooth for telescopes, they have to be "polished" by firing beams of atoms at them to keep them smooth on the atomic level. You can't even touch then with your bare hands because you'd fuck them up immeasurably
