Heys, anyone here uses after effects? i have recently came across a problem....

i opened after effects to do some editings then BAM screen goes black and restarts... no BSOD, just says in EV that kernel lost power.
system restore didnt work
my custom restores didnt work

so it seemed it may have been a memory issue
memtest clocked 11 passes without a single error

so i thought maybe its graphics issue...
first thing that came to my mind was OpenGL in after effects

disabled it and it stoped restarting

what does this mean?

gpu is a dud or after effects is having a fit?

or my gpu doesnt like open GL

what is open GL anyway?

what good is it for after effects?

what disadvantages is there having it disabled in after effects?

open GL wasnt a problem until recently tho.

on a side note i also bricked my galaxy s on the same day

should never use openGL in aftereffects, youd need 2 quadros and a shitty cpu to make it worthwhile.

yea i realised things are alot snappier without openGL on, but why would it fuck up on me like that, -.-

ah well, i guess its one of those mysteries you never get to figure out

thanks tho, now i disable it for all my other programs ^_^

only photoshop and ae use it, ae uses it for openGL previewing which is stupid. photoshop uses it for the advanced cs4 features like flick panning and who the fuck needs that.

Seems to me that my after effects OpenGL is suffering a memory leak - been monitoring it with openGL on and it just overflows my GPU causing it to suck all the power and restart as my PSU thinks its trying to protect it....

did some benchmarks using furmark - supposedly uses OpenGL used it on extreme burning and all ran fine, even used unigine on openGL all on high and all ran fine, so it makes me believe that after effects is having a fucking fit with openGL.

anyway... whilst im on the topic, would anyone know how i can make after effects save more then the default amount of frames whilst crusing through the timeline, the green thingies that save while on a frame only lets me save 10 frames before overwriting the ones im going to...if that made sense xD

i told you, you should never use opengl in ae unless your gpu and gpu memory overpowers your cpu and ram, which is never. asking a graphics card o do those kind of calculations is ridiculous,

and no it didnt make sense
