torrented it
played a bit
minecarts are fun as is boosting, makes getting around easier

cave systems are huge which is cool
tried SMP on the freewekend, basically only good fun to grief and blow up millions of tnt at once with other people
use item hacks to get tons of items make big shit
modify textures to get nice looking 'graphics' and interesting art, make your moon and sun look sweet
realise you can replace the moon and sun and lots of shit with porn or whatever which makes it more fun when youre on your own

then realise its all a horribly pointless waste of time, single player is boring on your own after a while, and SMP is broken with doors and some things so theres no point paying for it (and theres no free online unless someone sets up a server for it which no one will)

so fuck it, better things to waste time with.

Yeah you can't play Alpha without buying the game, so your can really only do Creative Mode on the Web, there are Torrents around tho that you can D/L that let you play Alpha Single player without an account.

actually you can, i used my awesome hack skillzz Laughing

what you do is copy the .minefield file into the roaming folder in AppData, click yes to all, or copy and replace to all the notifications that come up. then play minefield, dont use a user or pass just press login, and then press play offline and it works Very Happy

But Dog could you help with reskinning shit cos the thing i downloaded had lots of skins in it and i wannna use em but i dont know how, help please?

Minecraft Empty
PostSubject: Re: Minecraft   Minecraft EmptyTue Oct 12, 2010 9:22 am

alright i fucked with skinning a lot haha its fun for a bit but gets boring.
also i deleted minecraft and all my shit because i got bored of it but finding texture packs and the like aren't hard, the Doku one i think its called is nice.

SO in AppData/Roaming/.minecraft there is the Minecraft.jar
Make sure you have a copy of it somewhere in case you fuck up / want to go back to the original stuff

1) Extract the contents to anywhere (use winrar or something)
2) You have all the textures used in game at your disposable;
Mob folder has mob
The immediate directory of the folder has stuff like terrain.jpg which is terrain, clouds, snow, water, etc.
GUI has your inventory screen and what items look like
Sun and Moon are in their own folder.. i think its called terrain or title
3) Either make your own in Photoshop (or any transparency supporting image editing program) or download the images you wish to update.

to actually add them into your game;
1) open the Minecraft.jar using winrar. As in, go to the .jar, right click and select 'open with'
2) while its still open in winrar and you can see all the files inside, click and drag the textures you wish to replace from their location into the winrar window. make sure its the right directory for the image
3) it will prompt you to confirm, do so. if it encounters an error, make sure Minecraft isn't open
4) that's it, easy as pie.

Some people have released 512pixel texture packs as opposed to 256, i found using more than 256x256 for the terrain.png resulted in graphical errors, i advise to just stick with 256.
If you resize images up or down from 256/512 and back again, you lose resolution and actually get blurry pixels. because minecraft is all about them pixels some pixels can blur over into sprites for other terrain bits which makes it look like shit (except for the sun and moon they are good at 512).

So when making your own / editing them, be careful about making sure there is a transparent background and that pixels don't overlap into the other sprites

If you plan on making a custom Sun or Moon they are tricky because the game ups brightness on them and they can look like shit, you need a layer thats all black and on 10-20% opacity over the top of everything. It helps.

Adding custom sounds is more difficult and I never got around to making it work, so you're gonna have to google to change that.

Some tools to help:
Cartograph - Makes a map of your world
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=13134

Inventory Editor - Realistically making huge custom maps and cities requires more blocks you can mine yourself, you can use this editor to change or dupe items and gear and it really helps speed up the creative process if you're in a jam. Doesn't suck the fun out of the game if you use it to make ambitious projects.
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=7868&hilit=NBT+Edit

Cheat Engine - Real time hacking allowing you to manipulate your inventory, The most fun I had was on that free weekend where I went online, convinced admins to give me tnt, and made stacks of 10,000 of it and well.. we had good times =]
It's tough to use though at first so only if you really want it i can help

Maps:
Broville - Custom city someone built

Skylands - Tons of islands and shit floating in the air, huge map, go enjoy

Mixcraft Items:
Minecraft 23kadc5

Doku's texture pack:

Kinda regret deleting all my minecraft shit as I had half made an awesome custom map, my own custom textures and other shit, but I just realised it was a massive waste of time after half a week and not worth paying for.

I even had like 10 server IP's including one you could play on without paying for the game, but online multiplayer was fairly broke and apart from one time I played with some guys who didn't care about griefing and we had fun digging massive caverns, making tons of tnt and lava everywhere, built big towers only to blow em up, etc.
Online things like doors are glitchy, storing items isn't secure, minecarts don't work.. it just needs much more work done on it and I cbf contributing to Notch's $350K daily income.

I also know how redstone works, loosely at least to make lights flicker etc, its not hard, this page explains a bit: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Electricity

And for people who are new and totally lost:
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crafting

Remember: you HOLD left click to get blocks, not repeatedly press it.

If you enjoy this legos time sink then good for you hehe but it just gets bland after a very short amount of time, and online would keep it going if it wasn't so broken.

Man I had so many other resources too but I got rid of em, haha oh well.

Here's how boosting works:
The longer the two carts are side by side, the more momentum they get. I made a massive railway that stretched super fucking far and used one booster to go sailing along it. Quite an awesome ride really, the most fun the game has is with minecarts and redstone to make roller coasters.
Or blowing shit up
