heres somethin you can try.
Start >> msconfig, go to services tab, tick hide all microsoft services, then uncheck everything that you dont need to start up on start - up
do the same on the services tab.
Also - make sure you haz latest GFX driver.
Also after all that, if its still sluggish, open task manager / all processes click on the memory sub-tab in the processes tab, and it shows all that is using the RAM, end those which seem suspicious or not from microsoft, then do the same with the CPU instances, tho i doubt its a CPU problem
LOL trae ....
well you can just disable splendid from starting up, via msconfig.
also do those steps to help boot faster ....

LOL other thing he might wanna try if the laptop is overheating is to undervolt it, before i undervolt my laptop it was getting near 100 degree C went i was playing games and the throttleling kick in which made my laptop run at 800Mhz for 3 seconds, after undervolting my temp was reduce to 68 degrees C even went the cpu was at 100% usage. It doesnt affect the peformance of the laptop one bit and it doesnt damage it.

Set shaders to high rather than Ultra....makes it run alot better...shaders are broke!
