| Here's the linkAnd anotherThis is fucking retarded, is there no end to the Governments desire to completely own the internet and every thing everyone does on it. This is really quite some scary shit the powers that be in this country are planning on doing, the implications of this are huge not to mention that some one is going to have to pay for it .... you guessed it ... us the end consumer will be forking out for this, expext ISP's to be jacking up the prices as soon as this comes in to effect. Now would probably be a good time to be getting into the data storage facility business. |

| i agree, im pretty sure labor will win the next election, i also hope they do, i really want the $43bil to go into NBN to provide fiber @ home, if the libs get elected theyve openly stated they will scrap it, because apparently Australia "has good enough internet" : / i want fiber godamnit!
And about the ISP to record history, i lol at the idea, just like the governments firewall, its going to fail, and all if not most of the ISP will reject the idea, the cost, and resources needed to record all of the customers browsing history will cost the ISP - ultimately the government, and put them in more debt. Also wtf? its the government, dont they have access to this themselves if they need it upon request? why do they want everything recorded at every time, jeeze.
This government does seem abit power hungry, but thats no surprise.
I just hope the 43 billion goes to NBN real soon =) |

| Lame. +1 for libs, fibre optic is great in theory but we're simply too big a country for a national rollout and its such a waste of money. wtf u gonna do with that speed aside from download more movies, its not going to noticably increase your gaming pleasure, they should just focus on getting everyone suited up with adsl for free instead of this bullshit FO campaign, whose ads SUCK btw. |

| This is not simply going to be limited to your browsing history, it is going to be applied to pretty much any digital data transmission of any kind including IRC chat rooms, the entire content of private emails, video feeds from your webcam etc. etc. even VOIP will be recorded in its entirety, this means anyone using a VOIP phone / application such as TS or Skype will effectively have their phone line "tapped" the entire conversation their name and address and the person who receives the calls name adress etc automatically recorded all without any kind of warrant or even suspicion of either party commiting any crimes.
Should society come to accept this, The next logical step will be the powers that be demanding that everyone be fitted with sattelite locator beacons locked to your genetic imprint with voice, vision and auditory recording microchips inplanted their bodies at birth, with the same pretext of being in the interest of the greater good and that only the criminals will have anything to fear.
Yeah looks and sounds like we are moving into the realms of science fiction, however we already have much of the technical know how and equipment to manufacture such devices.
But don't worry If you aren't doing anything to break the law you will have nothing to fear, trust us we're the government and we are doing it for your own good.
It will definitly be the average citizen who will be paying for this one way or another, even if it is the government who pays for it initially, where do you think they got that money in the first place. |

| i agree, if libs can provide fiber without the crappy filter, that would be great, but i dont see the issue here, the filter is nothing tbh, theres a simple work around to accessing sites you want - VPN tunnel... im not too worried about the filter, rather the governments plans to make ISPs record histories, that can land the government in law suits-privacy issues, and the need for funds to ISPs, and ISPs loosing customers. Trae, fiber will have a huge impact to those that cant acess cable - or have slow speeds, i mean, NBN promises speeds atleast 2x faster, and up to 50x faster than currents broadband speeds, also less congestion if used properly by the ISPs. having speeds of 20mb/s in the morning then 100kb/s in the arvo is fuck angering, if your ISP is crappy, and cant get any other ISPs to your area (like how telstra charge a fuck load for wireless, or how i can only get Optus in my area) fiber might be a good thing to challenge the giants for lower and competitive prices. Once fiber gets released broadbands price is bound to drop. Also, NBN are rolling out Fiber to Brunswick area, to see how it goes. i just live 2 suburbs away fml! http://www.itnews.com.au/News/176403,nbn-co-rolls-into-brunswick-to-spruik-fibre-trial.aspxiiNet released pricing for fiber in Tazzie http://www.zdnet.com.au/iinet-confirms-nbn-pricing-339303556.htm |

| Not sure, Karma but it was on netnews, and yahoo7 for a day, not sure the media gives a shit about this, using VPN wouldnt be illegal, unless they pass another law. Then were all screwed. The whole idea of the filter is pathetic, its a lazy way to approach the issue.
"Even in Question Time, in parliament, he(Conroy) is simply ignoring questions being directed to him on the topic and has only stated that "people who are against the bill are for paedophilia". He has also tried legal action to silence critics of the plan." |

| Hooray for communism. Next thing you know the government will be covering up the Tasmania massacres of Aboriginals as 'a few rowdy tribesmen who were politely asked to go away' |
