I have just built a second computer for my wife. Can I take the HD from my new computer and add to my existing computer and load an OS like that using a virtual drive or somthing of that nature? I'm sik to death of getting errors from burning windows on a disk.

Maybe because your burn speed is at max? l think that would cause errors in the CD, and l believe so you can.

Dont think that you can put you HD in another the computer, that current setup of windows is specificaly designed for the current setup that you have. What i can suggest if you can get any OS on that computer, partion the hard drive, and try and load the OS while you are still in the old OS and then once that is done, reformat the old OS off the hard drive and the you will have another partion free. You can also try and boot from a usb depending on waht MOBO that u have, you can also try and load DOS from a floppy and then tell it to read from the usb stick.

you may be able to stick windows on a USB, google it.
im not sure to be honest ive just always used the copies of windows i have on CD to install.

if you have a nice big USB, like 8gig or so, or an external harddrive.. or any harddrive thats empty really, then you can do it.

Using an ISO of the Windows you want to install, extract it into the root directory of the harddrive or USB.
what youre doing is just what you normally do if you burn it to a cd except on a harddrive, and thats making all the install files available from one location.
- For example: if your USB or Harddrive is going by the name G: , then just make sure all the files necessary to install windows appear in that directory. NOT in another folder within the drive, but right out in the open.

Then with the USB or drive plugged into your comp, you start up the computer and go into the boot menu, or bios, or whatever it is your computer uses to change the boot priority, and set it to USB / External Harddrive.
the computer should then read the files as if they are on a cd and go about its business.

Cheers all for your comments! I have tried I think almost everything including the USB method. But still no luck so im going to buy more disks and try different burning software and at 1x speed and hope to hell I get somewhere. The USB method came up with errors as well, telling me to insert the original disk lol.

Best disks Sony DVD+RW AccuCORE technology with no errors there, archival reliability is very high with these disks. If anyone has the same problem burning OS for whatever reason try x1 speed using this type of Sony a disk, worked a treat!!
