I was thinking of the density of sand on impact, it would certainly compound and become dense under the pressure applied through gravity and force of impact, but I'm no major in physics so I could be completely WAY off the mark.

Seems the worst way to fall down a hill not better.

His movement allows for more acceleration time between being airborne and hitting the ground, the density of the sand would become quite solid so it would be pretty....crazy.

Yeah wounded is right though as you see he converting potential energy into rotational and kinetically energy but his body is doing alot of work and putting massive stress and strain into his body structure (specially the joints since they are the weakest links in our bodies).

doesn't really matter about the sand or snow, compress things and they become hard...the only thing that would remain relatively soft is feathers.
