PostSubject: performance question hard disks   performance question hard disks EmptyThu Aug 27, 2009 3:53 pm

Ok I installed a new VelociRaptor drive with a clean Win 7 OEM today. If i run my games from that OS that are on another drive will they be slower than if i had them installed on the raptor primary drive itself? or doesnt it matter as it loads the game to RAM?

If you install the games on another hard drive they will load as fast as that drive is able to read and write the data. So in your case it would be better to have the games installed on the Raptor drive as it has better seek times and faster read/writes.

Hope that answers your question Smile

Mate i have some games loaded on my raptor and some loaded on other drives, the only diff i see is in the load time of the game or maps ect on the raptor (win 7 OEM also). It dont seam to make any noticable dif when playing the games other than loading the next map.

Hey Arnie

From 7200 to 10000 not that much faster, maybe you are a little slow anyway and don't understand how much read/write your gamea do..

Basically i think you sound like an apple fan, just pay heaps it must work!

i run wars off either my boot drives or my storage which are twice as fast in HDtach and i get no noticable difference. except then when crysis crashes my computer it causes a cache failure in the raid drives and i gota do two cold boots to get them to start up and repair themselves.

Well if you can tell the diff when playing your better than me Pauline. Hay heres a thought if you spent more time paying attention to the game and less attention to weather or not your raptor is faster, maybe and it's a big maybe you would not get raped up the bum as often in wars, Bahahahaha!

having something on a seperate harddrive won't cause any problems unless data is being moved between the harddrives which is when it goes way slower because all the data has to be physically transfered rather than just the change of an address bit
