calibrating your monitor Empty
PostSubject: calibrating your monitor   calibrating your monitor EmptyWed Aug 19, 2009 10:05 am

ive known for ages my monitor calibration isnt that great and the settings are all off. I've had a look at some of the online calibrators (with the color bars) but none of them really give good results and they all give different results. I'd like to know how you (if you do) calibrate your monitor properly, especially asking trae

to do it properly you gota get this machine that hooks up to your video card and you make it look at your monitor and it generates an ICC profile

BUT

because we're not all retarded rich cunts the easiest thing to do is to Find the plce where you download the drivers for your monitor and they will (should) have the ICC profile for your monitor, which is designed to compensate for all the design flaws present in all monitors. This can be a fuckingbitch of a thing to find though...

For awesome screens designed to have access to the full spectrum (and surpass it) like my 2209WA IPS and most overprived IPS panels, their own profiles can suck and i find the nvidia control panel profiling system works best. Once i calibrated using that, crysis looked so much more fuckin awesome.

ICC Profiles are gay and probably the worst thing to learn afterprepress profiling.

This is easy

Buy a pair of 3D glasses, the older ones with blue and red lenses.

Stand about 3 meters away from your monitor.

Have someone throw the monitor at your head.

If it hits you adjust glasses and retry.

If you duck and it misses and smashes to pieces buy new monitor and a mac... colour will be fine

the belief that mac's have better colour calibration is a myth. the screens come from the same fucking places they just get a mac case put on them and the price doubled. fuck mac fans piss me off.

clerk you dont need a pro calibrator unless your doing graphic art, it's best to just tweak it to LOOK best and it will improve games and shit. getting it accurate in graphic design depends on whether your doing screen or print art, which is fucked for me coz i do both so i have to have a neutral calibration and have to try to trust the shitass ICC profiles and prepress defaults. even tho i have no idea what the 60 or so printing facilities i do work for are using -_-''

Hi Tra, I am a Mac hater and agree with you on the "fuck mac fans piss me off" but as usual you are uninformed. When i say macs are better for colour i should have been clearer and said safari, up until not so long ago Safari was the only one and this is backed up with real evidence..

WEB BROWSER COLOR MANAGEMENT TUTORIAL
This demonstration will make more sense using a color-managed web browser like SAFARI for Windows XP Windows Vista and Mac OS X, FireFox 3 will also work with its optional color management feature enabled.

The initial JPEG photos are all "tagged" with embedded ICC profiles.

The lower roll-over calibration pictures in this left column show the exact same photo paired without its embedded ICC profile.

These differences are noted on each individual digital image.

The theory is:
COLOR-MANAGED BROWSERS will HONOR the embedded ICC profiles and display all three tagged files the same (corrected through the computer's monitor profile).

UNMANAGED BROWSERS will show all three tagged photos very differently and each Tagged-Untagged pair the same.

(Stop and think about this if you don't quite understand it yet...).

These color examples have been setup to effectively demonstrate and troubleshoot the color differences between web browsers like Internet Explorer IE, Safari, FireFox, Opera, OmniWeb, Camino, including operating systems like Mac OS-X, Windows Vista and XP.

###

This on-line demonstration and troubleshooting guide in a color managed web browser is a simple and clear explanation to learn technical information about why how digital color management works — it may be worth your time now to find and load a color-managed browser and study this color evaluation tutorial until my basic points are fully understood.

PostSubject: Re: calibrating your monitor   calibrating your monitor EmptyFri Aug 21, 2009 7:51 am

i understand your post completely, but wtf does the display abilities of your internet browser have to do with the correct calibration of your monitor???

FYI browsers that display ICC profiles SUCK because when artists and designs make things for web they generally save to web in sRGB (which is what non-ICC browsers display everything in), now an ICC browser like safari or the new firefox displays these images WITH the ICC profile making them SHIT because sRGB originally sucked, it will be YEARS before web graphics aren't ICC tagged so these browsers make the internet look shit, if you have safari or the newest firefox you can see the difference between my sig and the other ones that i made, because i redid mine and removed the ICC profile.

So now it displays how it would in an older/shitter browser automatically.

The morale to this is DONT UPGRADE FIREFOX OR ANY BROWSER WITH ICC PROFILES.

AND if your using those online browsers to check if your SYSTEM is calibrated or ICC4 ready, your a fucking douchebag because your browser can't even display those profiles.

sure safari is 'better for colour', but not with THIS internet.

I have real good real life calibration on my monitors, I can see 10 million colours no worries! Full custom dual monitors with 180 degrees viewing, optical zoom, zero energy consumption. They are irreplacable!

HDMi that supports 48 bit needs to be 1.3 or 1.3a and then there is the question of monitor / tv i am still here with you... you can't lose me...

your right dessi, we should all use sub-8bit-monitors Razz. why waste that extra money?

(because the more colors a monitor CAN display, the less banding through the spectrum you can see across ALL images)

heres your 10 million colours:

heres my billions:

10 million was just a rough thing I pulled outta my arse, what Im saying is that no matter how many colours you display, the human eye can only decypher so many.

it is 10 million lol so you were spot on. but you do need more then 16million in a monitor to display properly. its to do with colour ranges and gamuts but its kinda complicated. basically a monitor doesn't have the same 'range' of colour as ... reality. even if it has MORE colours.
