do you care about saving money or a powerhouse of a computer?
with less than $1500 you could get a decent set up, $2000 may take it a little further.
to make the most of your money you should literally build it yourself, a buy all the parts seperately allowing you to get pretty good deals. thats provided you feel confident you can put one together, though its like playing with lego in a slightly more expensive way.

http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf get all ur shit from MSY, look at a getting: ASUS P6T (best i7 mobo around and very cheap) Core i7 920 6G Kit(3x2G) DDR3 1600 G.Skill-NQ (faster ram is always worth the cost - make sure u have a 64 bit OS) 896M GTX 260 Inno3D (if you can look at getting a GTX285) ANTEC 900 (best case and also cheap) thermaltake 500-600W PSU LG DVD Drive 2* SEGATE SATA 320G hard drives in RAID0 (that gives u 640 gigs) or u can go smaller/larger if u want Keyboard - most people go for the G15 Mouse - G5 or G9 are both good buys Monitor - 22" 5ms (2ms is too expensive and does jack all)
i think thats all ull need

Yea i am with DaPony on this one . if you go for a 750 i mobo rather go for a GTX 260 216 core coz a GTX 250 are identicle to 9800 GTX+ besides the memory size,

Yea but its like $50-$100 cheaper then a 9800GTX+ and if u dont know 9800gtx scale really well in SLi so you'd et performance even to or above a 285 . just look at the diff 2 9800's make from 1 in this.
Antec "Signature 850" -- Premium 850W power supply, 80 PLUS Bronze Certified, 80mm low noise fan, Dual 12V outputs, 4 x PCI-Express, 5 x SATA, 5x IDE = $319
2x ASUS ENGTX260/G/HTDI/896MB/HDTV/2XDVI/HDMI = $351
This will bring you to a total of $1796

1700-2000budget
mutiny ur idea of a setup goes beyond 2000 rofl << either youre able to steal this shit or you buy from a blackmarket lol
clerk urs goes a bit over the budget i tinks << my mistake if it doesnt
ponys actually manages to stay in the budget area with sum room for improvement like maybe change the cpu to a core i7 if you cans

i know mine did i just piled together all the decent shit i could find, youll probably have to go for a Q9400+gigabytte EP45-xxxxxxxx (probably extreme but thats not good for RAID because of the sata port positions under the graphics cards so ur only getting 4 sata ports at most if u use low profile connectors) but that gives u a benchmark to aim for, just work down from there

win mate, ur comp setup depends mostly on two things...
what your mainly using it for.
if its gaming, are you going for max settings trying to play with the game looking awesome or just wanting to be able play games with a smooth framerate

hmm.. I'm wanting to get something that will last a fair amount of time, without needing much upgrading (so probably quad core, DDR3) that will play games decently, doesn't need to be an uber computer.
Just need to save up for a display and possibly a higher wattage PSU.

looks sweet though two things i would upgrade are gtx 260, i would go for another brand instead of inno3d i dont like em for some reason but thats just my opinion. And also instead of a antec 900 i would go for a 1200 as it has more space, against though just my opinion.

do you have a screen already, or do you need one if so shouldnt you factor that into your budget?
BenQ 22" are around under $250 they are probs the cheapest 22" out there and are damn good (im using them) 19" is alot cheaper yet again but 24" is sometimes nearly double the cost of a 22" and not worth really unless you find a really good deal n i wouldnt go smaller than 19" for a good graphics set up
+1 to bigger cases, would help with ventilation probably and also any future expansion of storage space

really nice rig, you dont need anything bigger than te antec 900 unless ur using a 24/7 raid 1000 server the 900 provides excellent cooling and is all youll need regardless of what setup you use. As monitors go your dog got it right and id go for 2*500GB segate hard drives in RAID0 that will give u double speed and also teh full 1TB and unlike everyone says it wont shorten the life of ur hard drives because they are from the same batch and being used in sync so teh wear and tear is identical on each HDD so theyll last the same time as non-raid disks. Also HDD faliure isnt a problem if you make sure you back up ur important information.
Also what uve got there IS an uber computer and will easily run crysis on max settings without any problems.

2K on a box alone will get you a proper i7 rig, but not if you need screen and peripherals.

I have no idea how raid0 works, all i know is that you need two exactly same hard drives. Do you need special hardware/software/os or anything else?

mmm... true, that's probably more bang for buck, but i'm trying to get something that won't get outdated quickly (gaming hardware wise), and it seems like dual cores are hastily fading away in the gaming scene so i'm trying to stick with quad, that way i can just update graphics without updating mobo/cpu and ram.

RAID0 basically doubles your hard disk speed by writing to both hard drives simultaneously so theres only half the ammount of data to be processed at the same time. Very close to all motherboards support the feature, you can check the motherboard's website if you are unsure about it. The ony problem people see about raid0 is when one disk dies you lose the data on both disks but as i said this isnt a problem because the disks last about the same time and you should have a backup ready because single disks also die as well.

By the time there's a significant amount of games that appropriately support Quad's, the quad you buy today will be old and shit. Quad's hit the market in Nov 2006, i can count the amount of games that ACTUALLY benefit from them on one hand over 2.5 years later.
You're sacrificing getting a good video card which you will benefit from in order to obtain an expensive CPU you won't benefit from... I had a Q6600, i upgraded to an E8500 months ago and couldn't be happier.

yeah ive got a q6600 thought itd be more useful and more 'future proof' if things were programmed for quad cores, but shit all is actually ready for quad or even 64 bit OS to make use of more than 4gb ram, and only some high end recent games and programs use dual core properly. also operating systems can be a bit limiting as well as other factors with RAM and cpu bottlenecks, blah blah
tis why i settled for something average, cheap and works. itll last me a good while though the gpu will probably get upgraded most out of any of the hardware - just a q6600, 4gb DDR2 ram, and 8800GT
however for me this was a massive increase compared to my shiity laptop (which cost the same as the desktop i got) with a 1.7 ghz cpu (single core), 512mb ram, and some shitty integrated graphics card -mind you laptops are more expensive and desktops more upgradeable, primarily being motherboards to accomodate better gpus. then possible power supplies but not really, and provided you got a case sizeable enough no real problems
oh, and trying to get something that wont get outdated quickly is an exercise in futility, shit upgrades fuckin fast and the latest is always expensive, go with last years hardware rather than this or tomorrows.

Well i just upgraded most of my pc for just over 2000 -
Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz Processor
Gigabyte EX58-UD4P Ultra Durable 3 Motherboard
6GB (3x2GB Sticks) Corsair RAM
Corsair 650W PSU
ASUS DVD Multilayer burner/re-writer or what ever it is
LG 24" HD LCD
TV Card (to watch digital tv on pc cbf getting a set top box)
Antec 902 Gaming Tower case.. with a shitload of fans in it...
I think thats about it... that i can remember atm prolly some other shit in there.. you dnt need a G15 and all that shit at the start if you wanna get a new rig I'd suggest go all out on the rig... periferals can be bought at a later stage.

Nano, i'm assuming you already had your video card? There's an additional 3-400 on top of whatever you paid for someone who needs to get a video card

Whats your other graphics card. If its a newish Nvidia you can use the 8800 for physX. Assuming your motherboard has 2 x Pci slots. (I think it can be done without sli support)

What's the other card? What do you want to do with the second card?
You don't need SLI support to run a dedicated PhysX card, but be aware, depending on your motherboard, if you run a second card it may drop your main PCI-E slot bandwidth to accomodate the second card.

Yeah with regards to this... I was running my 8800GT as the main graphics card, and had a 8800GTS as a dedicated Physix card... To be able to use a second nvidia card for 'Physix' it needs to be 8800 series or later with 256MB of memory or more.

Ah ok, so the GTX260 as your main card and the 8800 for PhysX on a P6T? Yeah, shouldn't be a problem Both cards would recieve full 16x bandwidth too.
