VSYNC does exactly what was said...it just matches your monitor's refresh rate. Most all LCDs have no more than 60 fps and when they do it is simulated anyway. Unless you get a monitor like Trae probably uses you won't get an LCD with higher than 60 actual FPS. If you want one of those look for Adobe RGB 97% or higher. Mitsubishi has one in Japan that is 107%.

Anyway... Long story short is VSYNC lowers your FPS...

I also went in to my NVIDIA control panel and set it to prefer single display mode (defaults to multi-display mode which robs a few FPS)

i can't believe anyone who gets over 60fps doesn't use vsync, screen tearing is horrible in crysis.

saying that vsync lowers your FPS is misleading as it makes it sound like your getting less frames. If you're getting 120 frames per second out of your GPU, which is being displayed to you at 60 frames per second via your monitor, your going to get half a clip on every single one of those frames, and in motion (which crysis generally will be), you will have clipping, and your game will look 50% SHITTER.

if you're getting anything over 60FPS, your wasting power,producing unneccesary heat, and reducing your video cards lifespan, you CANNOT SEE THE EXTRA FRAMES.

Trae, I didn't say it is a bad thing... I just said it lowers your FPS (higher FPS doesn't mean better/prettier). Human eyes aren't able to catch much over 60 fps anyway. Standard TV is just 29.95 FPS... Don't know about HD.

Standard TV is actually 25 FPS, in Australia anyway. THere are lot of different ones like 24 fps, 29.97, 29.97 drop etc.

When shooting in HD I know that it is possible to record at 50 fps, but I'm not sure if playback at 50 is possible as I'm the sound guy on the movie set. So I get to work with 48000 slices of audio per second compared to 25 pictures per second.

Yea HD is still 25 fps but some times you can see the diffrence when u have a monitor over 60 Mhz like i played counter strike at 100 fps on 120 mhz fresh rate monitor and I found it to more resposive.

I couldn't play Mirror's Edge without VSync turned on because the tearing was so bad. I guess that means the frame rate was sitting just above 75.

Spent all night saturday building the desks/filing cabinet and chair and shit, this is about half way done, just moved out of home and got this shit set up with HDTV and mobile tethering thru my iphone (hooray for no line rental fees or internet). 3G isnt good enough for games or torrents but if i cant get naked im not going to bother with internet.

Becasue getting naked when you have the internet is important

right, so ignore the complete mess all over the show, iv not long moved back into mums house, my room kinda fits nothing more than my pc desk and bed. what else do ya really need tho??!!
