Left 4 Dead Tips & Tricks Empty
PostSubject: Left 4 Dead Tips & Tricks   Left 4 Dead Tips & Tricks EmptyThu Mar 05, 2009 7:17 am

Hey fellas

Thought it might be handy to post afew tips and tricks that we've learnt over time so that we can get everybody up to scratch on what to do and how to do it properly. Any other experienced players should feel free to add anything else that will be helpful. We might even have things that each other don't really know about.

OK gonna start with the special infected:

Boomer

  • A boomers vomit travels different distances depending on the angle you vomit at. Approx 20-30 degrees above horizontal will get you the most distance and will also shoot over things such as cars etc.

  • Boomers are easy to locate via sound, don't spawn too early unless you have a distraction such as a hunter taking the focus away from you

  • when spewing behind a corner, don't wait for the survivors to be in view. Start spewing just as theyre about to come into view as your vomit will lats for a while

  • After you've vomited and your rechrage still has a while to go, suiciding can be a great tool for that extra horde and also to cancel out survivors trying to pickup incapacitated people or when trying to heal

  • Use the Boomer suicide knockback for coordinated attacks. For a brief second the survivors cannot do anything. Use this time to either pounce or pull the survivors. This is very useful when all the survivors are in a group and mellee spamming such as at the elevator on NM4 or in the finale house on BH5.

  • Use the boomer suicide knockback to knock surviors off ledges.

  • When the survivors have a whole lot of pipebombs the boomer can be quite ineffective. Suiciding the boomer without any other Speial infected (SI) dying can allow us to have 3 hunters which is far more effective.

  • The boomer dies very easily. When the survivors are concentrating on shooting a witch or a hunter off a survivor try running into their line of fire, theyre either going to shoot you or have to delay and mellee, giving the witch or hunter ample time to do damage.

  • The boomer vomit has an arc in its trajectory. You don't have to visibally see your target to land a vomit out of a window such as on NM1 in the alleyway.

  • Your death knockback will also knock special infected off of survivors, make sure your not standing near a pounced or smoked survivor unless the situation requires it (i.e. the hunter or smoker is going to die very soon anyway and you might aswell get some extra vomit on a survivor)

Hunter

  • There are two different ways of going about attacking to cause max damage as a hunter. The first way is if your attacking by yourself. Producing a max damage (25) pounce is your best bet as you will get knocked off the survivor very quickly against experienced players. The further away you are from your target the more damage you will pounce for. Me and Wounded will be able to show you some good pounce positions during a practice if you need ideas.

  • The second way is a coordinated group attack. Pouncing and smoking the survivors at the exact same time is key here. If your out by a second or more then your pretty much toast as you will get knocked off pretty darn quick. I'd suggest in a coordianted attack that you look at a closer range pounce to ensure you land at the same time as your teammates.

  • USE THE FIRE! A hunter that is flaming will do a shitload more damage on a pounced survivor than when not flaming.

  • Be a distraction. If you have already spawned then the survivors can hear you. Why not distract them a bit so that the boomer can have a better chance at landing a vomit on them.

  • Hunters can scale walls and buildings by wall jumping. When pouncing at a wall turn around so that your back is at the wall and press your left mouse button to jump off that wall. It takes some practice but you can also scale a singular wall which we can show you in a practice session.

  • Use your mellee attack. It does around 6-7 damage per hit and can be useful if youve missed a big pounce and land right next to the survivor. It's also useful on targets that are low on life.

  • If your about to become a tank remember to spawn your hunter before you change over it will remain on the map as a standard hunter. This applies for all SI, spawn them before becoming a tank.

  • You have a small range of movement in the air when pouncing. Practice some big pounces and get a feel for the range of motion you have through the air.

  • Look to land a pounce on a survivor that is still on top of an unreachable place for survivors to get to again such as above the sewer manhole on NM3 or on the roof up the ladder on NM5 as the survivors are jumping off the ledge.

Smoker

  • Teh smokers tongue has about a half second delay on it's grab. Aim a little ahead of the target and shoot it a little earlier so that theres less chance they will break your tongue on an object theyre walking past.

  • Hang behind the survivors a bit and try to pull the last survivor backwards towards the start of the map. Any delays you can make on them allows us more time to spawn and coordinate

  • Try drag the survivors into fire where possible

  • Try drag survivors off ledges where possible

General

  • Keep an eye on the spawn times of your teammates, their is no point dying when you can have a coordinated attack and potentially finish them off in one foul swoop

  • As said earlier, spawn your SI before becoming tank

  • Think on the fly, if one of your teammates has just pounced someone, don't waste time trying to get to a good pounce/vomit/smoke location and don't just wait around, assist him and try to prevent the survivors knocking that hunter off their teammate.

  • Incapacitated survivors are a priority, prevent them from getting picked up as much as you can

  • Incapacitated survivors are a priority, aim for the survivors with the lowest amount of health

Tank

  • Aim for the survivors with low health first. They run slower and you'll have one less gun shooting you.

  • If the survivors have a good aim on you and can kite you easy don't just run after them and waste the tank, have pacience, throw rocks from areas they cant fire on you and wait for the other SI to distract them or land punces/vomit on them before charging in.

  • Aim to knock the survivors off of the building/ledges

  • Use hittable items such as tree trunks, cars, trolleys to knock the survivors down, it only takes one hit to take them down.

  • Don't knock a hunter or smoker off of the survivor they have already taken

Survivors
  • If your using the uzi or assault rifle don't reload to frequently, your wasting a whole lot of bullets if you do
  • When any survivor is spewed on, run over and crouch next to them until they say they can see again, we will take far less damage and will be able to see each other if we get pounced on
  • If you get spewed on, don't run around like a headless chicken, crouch and wait for others to come to you, or head to a wall or preferably a corner if one is nearby
  • Aim for the head, it does more damage, except on a tank i think
  • Think about where you try to spawn as a boomer and look out for the enemy there
  • If we have already passed the tank, change your molitov for a pipebomb
  • If your near a gun table and have a witch you can see or perhaps a tank throwing objects from far away switch to a sniper for a bit, change back when you move out
  • Pick up a second pistol they are extremely useful
  • If you're not moving, the SI cannot see your halo, use this tip when your in an area where a big pounce cannot be landed. If you stop moving it's far easier for the enemy to land big damage pounces

If anything scares u, or something comes out of nowhere, learn to melee instead of shoot, it frustrates me when ppl shoot a boomer that I have just melee’d away because it popped up on there screen, learn to control that finger and melee EVERYTHING that is close range

Hey carts mate lighting the smoker on fire helps a hell of a lot... for the survivors that is, instead of being some shadowy cunt your now a blazing infurno that sticks out like anything personally it think it's kinda stupid, but don't know till you try
