Needing alittle help with this stubborn i7 920

Currently have hyperthreading / turbo boost disabled (along with the energy saving C1E bs and EIST) @ 20x 194 3.88Ghz

However when i try 21x by 186 to get same clock, turbo boost is automatically enabled and cant be disabled i really wanted the 21x multiplier.....Are theyre any big differences with 20x or 21x multi.

Also Hyperthreading on or off? ive read about people having stablility / clock / performance issues with it both on and off. But imo having a i7 without hyperthreading on is kinda a waste?

And lastly the QPi settings, what should i be setting this to? i usually have it on 'Auto' and figured it might be a bad idea.

well you really need hyper threading on if you want a good cpu score as it doubles the threads...dont know who told you to turn it off...but they need to read into cpu's more....as without it there would be no point in overclocking because a stock clock with HT would beat ur oc'd version as far as i know

You might of seen this but some say its good to have HT on with overclock and others advice against it. W/o it gives the cpu a higher clock speed because HT uses more volts and is more power hungry.

I am sure the snr admins will have a few words about this also Razz

Virt, I am using same CPU as you at 21X multi with HT on and turbo off. I am using 180Ghz also. Havnt had an issue with turbo coming on by itself. My QPI settings are not on Auto but dont know off hand what they are without going into BIOS.
Arny will have more info for you when he reads this Smile
