| Has anyone connected there computers to a TV? eg. Plasma/LCD/LED screens
I bought a 55inch LED 3D tv and thought it would be awesome if i hooked my computer to it. I haven't tried it as my computer hasn't been unpacked. "Moving into my newly built house".
I'm running a Q9550 with a 4870 1G. I probably need a GPU upgrade but i'm wanting to know who has done it so that they can share there experience.

| Get the hdmi cable and strip it then jam it in one of your gpu ports, doesn't matter which one..... in fact just place the cable on top of your card. Should work. Don't need to thank me Charlie _________________ sErBz wrote: Lol nah since I was 18 my name is never on the electoral role. I win this year! Not voting when you don't want to.. ahhhhh! | Your awesome Karma, should of directly asked you instead of posting on the forums lol
I just checked the Ports on my GPU, and it doesn't have a HDMI port. Gay. The Tv in the other hand has a computer extension, with the old school 15 Pin plug :S
I think a quick stop at msy for a new GPU with a HDMI output sounds more appetising. _________________ |

| no.
dvi>hdmi adapter works perfectly. and you'll need one if you want to be able to use the displayport adapter that came with your macbook. |

| yeah they come standard because its a dumb idea putting a hdmi port on a GPU as you'd have to generally sacrifice the 2nd dvi port. |

| You mite find it a bit laggy on such a big screen, i have my LCD tv set up as second monitor and if i play crysis or bfbc2 on it, is noticable compaired with my 27' monitor but boy is it easy for head shots lol. |

| Yeah, I thought that would be a factor. Because it's a large screen I'm not sure if my 4870 can cope with it. Comparing with your set up Arny which is better than mine, I don't think this ati card alone stands a chance.
I'll keep you's posted. _________________ |

| I have a 720p home theatre projector onto a ~3m ( 118.1 inches ) screen which I sometimes bring the main PC out for games and movies. Crisp clear and no pixel lag issues. If I remember, I'll take a snap for yas. _________________ |

| just a heads up, 3d is shit, plain outright retiner destroying shit, the only good thing that has come out good with its release, is the massive decline in the purchasing prices of regular televisions.

| there really shouldn't be any lag on a big screen as it just processes the image that is transfered from the comp. if there is any lag it is from ur comp. been using a 42inch for 4 years first a plasma then a lcd never had any issues. |

| well the best GFX card for running a 55 " screen would be a 9800 GTX because of the pixel fillrate that it has. meaning how many pixels that a the GFX card can change at any given time and because a 55 " screen will have a resolution 1900 x 1080 or some shit like that so yea there are lots a pixels to change at any given time.
Or any ATI card with a core cock over 800 Mhz would be the best. otta the 5000 series. |

| the size of the screen has absolutely nothing to do with the number of pixels. you can get a 21" monitor with a higher res then a 60" tv. |

| very true.....plus the video card doesn't run the tv, it sends a signal to the tv and the the tv processes the signal into data, which in turn makes a picture on the output of that data. a fucking voodoo Banshee 3dfx 32MB card can work with that reso....i might even test it with my 40" |

| The word pixel is derived from picture element and is a single point in a graphic image. The size of a pixel in inches depends on the device being used to display the image. There is a really nice page that describes this at scantips. This page captures the resolution of your monitor and displays a rectangle that is 500 pixels wide and 200 pixels high. If you can change the resolution of your monitor or look at this page on two monitors with different resolutions you will see that the size in inches of the rectangle is different for different resolution monitors. |

| WAit it also depends on what Program you use coz some programs use the GFX card ands others the CPU so think i might also have been a bit wrong there.

| LOL Illicit, you just gotta worry about the refresh rate on the comp and the TV some tv might have a refresh rate of 5ms, so might have higher. The higher it is the more time it takes for the image to update, the more lag effect it appears to have. _________________ Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.-Albert Einstein

| 5ms or 2ms, makes no difference as ur eye cannot tell. all that bullshit about 2ms being so much faster and better makes absolutely no difference to ur eyes. as long as its not more then 5ms it won't affect anything that ur eye can see. u might get a little lag but barely anything noticeable tbh
its been covered before here im sure |

| tvs don't generally work on 'ms', odds are your computer is going to keep up with a shitty tv "refresh rate" no matter what.
and illicit, i don't think YOU even know what the fuck you're on about. the size of ANY screen has almost no effect on its pixel density. you can get a fucking 60" rear projection tv that is only 480i, lower resolution then a 3" smartphone screen.
any GPU in the last few years can handle a full HD resolution, regaurdless of what you converters or adapters you're using (unless for some fucked up reason you've managed to run it thru a Wii or direct VGA).
Your fps will, as always, be derived from the computer's overrall grunt in regaurds to what the game/program requires. if you get 'fps' lag from the screen then buy a better tv. |

| All i know is that my 48" 1080p lcd tv was slower to respond to my 27" lcd monitor when playing wars with all high settings, not much mine you but it was enough to give me the shits. If i had played on with it i would have got use to it, just cbf.

| Yer Trae is right but even with both set to 1080p it was there. Maybe lag is not the right way to describe it, it was more like trying to move around on such a big screen, just seamed slower, and i don't think its my pc as im sure its more than capable lol. |

| You need the Nvidia glasses set. Nvidia have a new unreleased software called 3DTV play which will convert your games to 3D. but they are yet to release it
this is only because 3DTV's are not Nvidia stereoscopic supported like 3D computer monitors are |

| Until now i still haven't worked it out. Probably because i have an ATi. They do have a 3d program. But i don't understand the calibration process. Starcraft is 3D compatible. might try again later.
I went to the shops hoping to buy Avatar on 3D. Sales assistant told me they don't have a copy. I asked why? He said each copy was at least $300 and Jb Hi won't stock them atm because of this ridiculous price. So i googled it to confirm. and found this - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Avatar-3D-Blu-ray/11908/
CRAp! Well the positive side of things there going to launch a whole heap next year for around $20-$50 mark. Easier on our pockets then. Beside there isnt many 3D titles out atm which sucks. So it's a bit of a wait for those who own it at present. _________________ |
