To be honest oc'ing ram wont give you much/or noticeable performance increase. I dont bother, but hey if your keen go for it.

yeah it not gonna matter much anyways... 4.1 on the cpu is more than enuf.. my e8400 is at 4 ghz... i could push it a bit more but i dont see the need cause theres a bottleneck in the gpu, 4850... u only need to oc enuf so the gpu doesnt bottleneck, past that is a waste... that is unless theres still a bottleneck on the gpu... and the oc'ing on the ram is gonna go hand in hand with the cpu... i say just leave it so its stable... thats all u need really.. wat u got now is fucking plenty... that is unless ur tryin to get some big 3D mark score or somfin... ask cos wats his...

dont oc ur ram mate leave as is it doesn't really do shit, sometimes when u oc ur cpu u actually need to lover ur clock ur the ram to keep it stable, i had that prob and a few other guys as well. so dont push ur ram anymore mate leave as is or drop a lil. i can oc my ram to 1800 but then starts getting all funny so i leave it at 1600 just coz something says u can push it to a certain point dont really mean u can or have it stable at that point

Yeah it does make a difference but it depends on ya setup.... CPU OC in crysis made a huge difference to FPS for me anyways, GPU OC doesnt do much for Crysis its all about using the CPU to free up the GPU bottleneck and this is all dependent an the GPU/s you are using, My 2 9800GX2's create a huge bottleneck so i have to run a high CPU OC to get the full performance outa them. But as wounded said his system is different and his 8800 doesnt need a big CPU OC to work to its full potential.
I have been running Wars on low/med settings lately same as wounded to get the best playability, even with my setup!.....I can run it higher and it looks pwetty but you play better at 150 FPS rather than 50 lol
If ya wanna talk serious OC's talk to a guy most of us know Milamber he has some great threads on OCAU.
Should see the pix of him using liquid nitrogen cooling on his rig to get +5ghz rofl!

Just a quick question what would the bottle neck be on my computer be if i have the following clock speeds

Cpu- 4.5 core 2 duo
Gpu- 800 mhz
Mother board ram- 1120 mhz ddr2
Gpu- ram 2300 mhz ddr3

I still have more room to overclock my cpu and FSB but not my ram, i was thinking about getting some kinston ddr2 1200Mhz but they only come in 2x1 gb kits. And i have vista 64 bit. Just one other question is will my mother board able to support ddr2 ram over 1200 mhz and if so where can i find it.

Wel i have got 45 nm e8500 cpu, with a thermaltake 120 heat pipe cooling i think that my volts are 1.66 and 1.4 on my FSB, i can get my cpu all the way up to 4.8 on a cold day with a 2100 mhz FSB and my Multiplier at 9.5.... For my graphics card i have got a 9800 gtx+ is this a good combo for a xfx 780i Mother board and cpu combination

well anything kinda over the 4gz mark i think isn't bottlnecking therefore the extra .8 ghz i think is a waste unless u do all that softweare shit... should test the bottleneck... it should go quite nicely with that mobo Very Happy

no actually... i DO no wat a bottleneck is actually wounded so u can all fuck up... say the cpu is running at for example 2.4ghz... and u hav 2x 295 gfx or wateva... obviously running the cpu at that speed isnt going to get the gfx running the best they can cause the process speed is sooo slow....

so to do a simple test is to check frames... start cpu at a low clock and slowly make it faster until ur frames arnt getting any higher... cause any extra clock is just a waste as uve gotten rid of the BOTTLENECK!

dickheads

Hey Mutiny have you install you video drivers properly??? ( uninstall the old drivers, do a register cleanup and then install the new drivers).
I use to get shit load of problems before went i just install the newer drivers on top of the old ones.l
My opinion on overclocking is alright but is just shortening the lifespan of you hardware even if you cooling it down (unless you cooling it to some extreme temperature with some exotic cooling like nitrogen or submerge cooling).
You better off buying the hardware that runs at that speed without overclocking because they run alot better but for that you need $$$ Sad

Yea i do not overclock to the max, just enough to get the best performance out of my system when u mean register cleanup do u mean using spy bot search and destroy or are there any other free software out there that i can use to do a register cleanup.

Jesus... 1.66v on a 45nm, i'm surprised it's not dead yet. Hope you're getting a hell of a lot of vdrop/droop otherwise that CPU will be dead in a very short amount of time at that voltage Smile

If you set 1.66v in BIOS, for example, you won't get 1.66v when the CPU is loaded in Windows.

A general example would be;

BIOS - 1.45v
Windows idle (vDrop) - 1.42v
Windows load (vDroop) - 1.38v

Because of the way the motherboard power works and the ability of the components, the power you ask and the power you recieve aren't usually the same. Some boards have "load line calibration" which lessens the gap between voltage drops.

And is 1 gb stick of ram faster than a 2 gb stick of ram running at the same Mhz and latency times.

Ohh i just wanted to point out boys, if you increase the temperature of a electronic device by 6 degrees Celsius, that means if you CPU normal temperate rate is around 40 degrees and you overclocking it so the temperature rise to 90 degrees Celsius then you device wont last long at all, if you expected the CPU to last you for at least 4 years then you out of luck, but then again everyone upgrades their CPU every 2 years approximately so its not a big deal.
But if you got the $$$ then get the CPU that runs at that speed instead of getting a slower CPU and overclocking.
PS. And no I'm not making this shit up its been bash into my head while i was doing my degree.

Uhh, what?

Quote :

Yeah, your CPU FSB runs in relation to your Motherboard FSB. Your FSB would actually run at 333MHz internal clock rate, then you "quad-pump" to get your full FSB speed, which is 4x333 = 1333MHz. When you overclock your CPU, you're actually overclocking your FSB to overclock your CPU, so by increasing your FSB to 400 (or 1600MHz QDR) you're automatically upping the CPU clock to 400MHz * whatever multiplier it uses, which for the E8400 is 9x. So, 9x400MHz = 3600MHz CPU clock. This -completely- changes with i7 as there is no longer a Front Side Bus Razz But you can still overclock, just differently.

As for your last question, have a look at some benchmarks to compare i7 vs Core2. www.anandtech.com , www.guru3d.com , etc.
