Google Wave is a yet to be released web-based service
developed by Google staff in Sydney, and has started
to get some buzz on the Web and main stream media.
Its aim is to merge e-mail, instant messaging, wiki, and
social networking in such a way, that many experts
predict it could change the way we communicate online.
Some have even suggested that the concept could
eventually replace email, which has on the whole
remained relatively unchanged since it revolutionised
the way organisations and people communicate and
work.
A summary of some of Google Wave's features:
- real-time communication, allowing you to see what
someone else is typing as they type
- collaborative - Other invitees can contribute to a wave
communication
- "Waves", as these communication threads are called, can
be public or private
- Wiki functionality - A Google Wave can be edited by
someone else, because the conversation is shared,
allowing the conversation to be added to to develop over
time
- extendable - Google Wave is an Open-Source
technology, allowing programmers to develop extra
functionality for it
- drag and Drop file sharing
- focus along with automated translation between 40
languages.
